Product Care Guide

Your MOB & KO tools are designed to perform beautifully and, with the right care, can remain part of your kit for years.

Makeup, oils and cleaning residue can build up over time, affecting the performance, shape and condition of your tools. Please follow these care instructions to help protect them.

How often should you clean your makeup brushes?

For personal use, we recommend thoroughly cleaning your brushes at least once a week, particularly those used with liquid and cream products.

Brushes used around the eyes or on breakout-prone skin may need cleaning more frequently.

For professional use, a clean and appropriately sanitised brush must be used for every client. Always follow professional hygiene standards and the directions provided with your chosen cleaning and sanitising products.

Never use the same uncleaned brush on multiple clients.

How to deep-clean your brushes

1. Hold the brush with the hairs pointing downwards.
2. Wet the brush hairs using lukewarm water, keeping the ferrule and handle as dry as possible.
3. Apply a small amount of dedicated brush cleanser or gentle shampoo to the hairs.
4. Work the cleanser through the brush using light circular or gentle back-and-forth movements. Do not pull, twist or scrub the hairs aggressively.
5. Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear, continuing to keep water away from the ferrule.
6. Gently press out excess water using a clean towel. Do not wring or twist the brush.
7. Carefully reshape the brush head with your fingers.
8. Lay the brush flat on a clean, absorbent surface and allow it to air dry completely before using or storing it.

Where possible, position the brush head slightly over the edge of the surface to allow air to circulate around it.

In-between cleaning

For a quick clean between full washes, you can use a suitable isopropyl alcohol-based brush cleanser.

Apply a small amount to a clean piece of kitchen roll or towel, then gently move the brush hairs across it until the product has been removed. Avoid soaking the brush or allowing the cleanser to travel into the ferrule.

Allow the brush to air dry completely before using it again.

For professional makeup artists, brushes must be thoroughly cleaned and appropriately sanitised between every client. Always follow the directions provided with your chosen professional cleanser.

In-between cleaning does not replace regular deep washing.

Protecting the ferrule and handle

The ferrule is the metal section connecting the brush hairs to the handle.

Do not soak or fully submerge your brushes. Allowing water or cleaning products to enter the ferrule may weaken the adhesive and cause the brush head to loosen over time.

Avoid applying alcohol-based products directly to painted or finished handles, as this may damage or alter the surface finish.

What should you use to clean your brushes?

We recommend using a dedicated makeup brush cleanser or a small amount of gentle shampoo for deep cleaning.

Always check that your chosen cleanser is suitable for cosmetic brushes and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Rinse thoroughly, as cleanser left within the brush hairs may affect performance or cause irritation.

For professional sanitising and in-between cleaning, use a suitable isopropyl alcohol-based brush cleanser according to its directions.

What should you avoid?

To help prevent damage, do not:

• Soak or fully submerge your brushes
• Allow water or cleanser to run into the ferrule
• Use boiling or excessively hot water
• Use bleach, acetone or harsh household cleaning products
• Pull, twist or aggressively scrub the brush hairs
• Wring the brush head to remove water
• Dry brushes upright while they are still wet
• Use a hairdryer, tumble dryer, radiator or other direct heat source
• Store brushes before they are completely dry
• Leave brushes loose where the hairs may become crushed or misshapen

Caring for your Spuffy

The Spuffy requires slightly different care from a traditional makeup brush.

For regular cleaning

Apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to a clean piece of kitchen roll or towel. Gently rub the Spuffy against it to remove product and cleanse the surface.

Do not spray isopropyl alcohol directly onto the Spuffy or submerge it in alcohol.

For a deeper clean

1. Place the Spuffy under warm running water.
2. Apply only a minimal amount of mild soap or suitable cleanser.
3. Gently work the cleanser through the Spuffy to release product build-up. Do not pull, twist or scrub it aggressively.
4. Rinse thoroughly until all makeup and cleanser have been removed.
5. Gently press out excess water using a clean towel. Do not wring or twist it.
6. Leave it in a clean, well-ventilated area to air dry for approximately six hours, or until completely dry.

Drying time may vary depending on room temperature, ventilation and humidity. Always allow your Spuffy to dry fully before using or storing it.

Do not soak the Spuffy in isopropyl alcohol, use excessive cleanser, machine wash, tumble dry or place it on a radiator or other direct heat source.

Storing your tools

Only store your brushes and Spuffy once they are completely dry.

Keep them in a clean, dry and well-ventilated place, away from excessive heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

When travelling, protect brush heads from being crushed or bent inside your kit bag.

When should you replace your brushes?

A brush may need replacing if:

• It begins shedding excessively
• The brush head becomes loose
• The hairs remain distorted after washing and reshaping
• The brush becomes noticeably thinner
• It can no longer be cleaned effectively
• There is visible damage that could affect safe or hygienic use

Some gradual changes to the appearance, softness or shape of a frequently used brush are expected through normal wear.

Important care information

Following these instructions will help preserve the condition and performance of your MOB & KO products, but no cosmetic tool is indestructible.

The customer is responsible for using, cleaning, drying and storing each product appropriately. Damage caused by misuse, accidental damage, excessive force, unsuitable cleaning products, soaking, improper drying, exposure to heat or failure to follow these care instructions is not considered a manufacturing fault.

Normal wear and tear, staining, cosmetic discolouration and gradual changes resulting from regular use are also not considered manufacturing faults.
